FC Barcelona continues to look across Europe in their quest to find the rightful heir to the throne left behind by the departing Sergio Busquets. The captain and veteran of the club possessed a certain composure and technical ability that almost none in the world can boast to have, yet there are certain that may hold the potential to.

One such player has been scouted by FC Barcelona, particularly noticed by the departing Jordi Cruyff some time ago, and he currently resides and plies his trade in the Belgian football league.

Arthur Vermeeren is an 18-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Belgian side Royal Antwerp. Specializing as a holding midfielder, the Belgian player is noted to possess a particularly mature understanding of the game as well as commendable technical qualities to compliment that game sense of his.

As per SPORT and Catalan journalist Gerard Romero, the player is amongst the chosen few in Barcelona’s list of candidates to replace Sergio Busquets. The player is currently valued at €8.5 million as per Transfermarkt and continues to attract major European interest from sides such as Barcelona and Manchester United.

In what is consistent nature for FC Barcelona, betting on youth has the potential of paying off substantially, cases like Pedri and Araujo are evidence of that. The player’s acquisition would not be all that costly, and given the club’s rather vulnerable economic situation, the youngster could be a possibility the Catalans definitely take the time to ponder.

While definitely not the first priority for Xavi Hernandez, with the coach still desperately after the signing of Martin Zubimendi, the player is still seen as quite the interesting prospect due to the similarities he possesses to the game of Busquets, and his young age further would allow Barcelona to mold and shape him into a footballer that could one day lead the helm of that midfield should they bring him in.
