As already reported, Wesley Franca is one of the rising Brazilian stars that Barcelona are attracted to. However, despite the recognition of Wesley’s talents by Barcelona and insistence on part of the player himself to come to Catalonia, it would be nothing short of a miracle if he is actually signed before the end of this winter transfer window.
Wesley’s current club, Flamengo, remains the biggest obstacle in him being signed by Barcelona in this window. The Brazilian club is not satisfied with Barcelona’s offer of a one-year loan with a token fee and a non-mandatory option to sign the player at the end of the loan period. Barcelona cannot take any other approach to sign the promising youngster due to their problems with Financial Fair Play rules and their overall financial condition.
On the other hand, Flamengo have already met their yearly financial targets, as they have recently finalized the transfer of their midfielder, Joao Gomes, to Wolverhampton Wanderers for €18.7 million.
Their financial condition is expected to improve even further as they expect another of their highly prized asset, Matheus França, to be sold in the coming days, for a transfer fee of at least €20 million, with Newcastle having shown its interest in the player.
Thus, Flamengo feels no urge to part with a player whom they expect to grow rapidly in the coming seasons, and thus can bring them higher returns in the future. Still, the insistence on part of Wesley to become associated with Barcelona still gives hope to the Catalan club executives as per the reports from SPORT, who remain in contact with Wesley’s entourage to fulfill his dream of playing in the famed FC Barcelona team.
