Barcelona issues official statement on Araujo’s injury

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo

Barcelona has provided an official statement and update over Ronald Araujo’s current fitness and condition following a plethora of reports suggesting the Uruguayan has felt discomfort in his left thigh adductor.

The official statement by FC Barcelona confirms these reports and conveys the following:

Although the club has refrained from publishing or conveying any exact expected date of the return for the Uruguayan, similar reports suggest and agree that the expected time out will be at least 2-3 weeks, meaning that Ronald Araujo will consequently miss the two friendly matches that Uruguay’s National Team is scheduled to play against Japan and South Korea, on the 24th and 28th of March, respectively.

By missing this international break, Ronald Araujo is given enough leisure and time to rest and recover thoroughly. This problem with his adductor was even hinted at priorly by the Uruguayan before the match against Almeria. This suggests it’s rather advisable that the Barcelona defender indeed takes some time off rather than risk aggravating a pre-existing problem.

FC Barcelona are next scheduled to play bottom-placed Elche CF on matchday 27 of La Liga Santander following the conclusion of the international break and the return of players from their respective national sides. Not as big a priority as the subsequent match against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Copa Del Ray semi-final, the player will possibly even be rested against Elche should he return by then simply to ensure no fallback or relapse following his recent recovery.

Injuries have been a massive concern for Ronald Araujo this season, with the Barcelona player even having had to miss out on the FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to an unfortunate injury. It would now be best that he focuses on fully recovering and ensuring his services are available to FC Barcelona at this pivotal part of the season.

His performance against Real Madrid, as it typically is, was worth tremendous praise, and his availability is of the utmost priority when Los Blancos return for the Copa Del Ray fixture. Xavi Hernandez and the Barcelona medical team will indefinitely be keeping an eye out in particular to ensure Araujo’s complete recovery.
