With their acquisitions in the last summer transfer window, FC Barcelona have cover for almost all of their players in the starting eleven. The two most notable positions which lack such a cover are those of the striker and the midfield pivot.
Currently, there is no one other than Robert Lewandowski, who naturally plays in the center of the attack. While players like Ferran Torres can cover for him at times, the Pole is the only natural striker in Xavi’s squad. Similarly, there is also only Oriol Romeu, whose natural position on the pitch is that of a midfield pivot.

Thus, Barcelona are looking to strengthen these positions, and for the center-forward position, one of the players that the Catalans have been recently linked with is the Argentine Julian Alvarez. The Catalans have already tried to sign him on loan with a purchase option, but it did not materialize. Still, the coaching staff and the sporting area like him a lot.
However, the Blaugranes are not the only team in Europe interested in the Manchester City forward. According to SPORT, Real Madrid also like the player and have already contacted his entourage to show their willingness to sign him. The Merengues see him as a competent replacement for Karim Benzema.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona know that Alvarez would like to play in Spain. His role and importance in the Manchester City squad has improved this season, and he has played significant minutes as a starter. However, the Citizens are committed to Erling Haaland as their main striker, a fact that has frustrated Alvarez in the past.
Everything depends on Alvarez
Still, Manchester City showed confidence in the player by extending his contract till 2028, and there are reports that the player will not have a release clause in this contract.
Thus, everything will depend on Alvarez’s own decisions, as Manchester City have allowed players who wanted to leave easily in recent times. The player himself wants to be a starter but will make a decision only after the end of the current season.
