FC Barcelona remain keen on reinforcing their team moving forward. Some of the players within the current squad are seen as temporary options rather than long-term assets. However, picking out the right target is always equally important in matters as crucial as this.

One such position is that of the central defensive midfielder. For now, Barcelona continue to rely on Oriol Romeu as their specialist. However, given both his age and lack of elite qualities, Romeu is a player Barcelona can not fathom as their pivot for the years to come.

As such, many names have been targeted. The most recent, as per SPORT, is that of Mats Wieffer. Currently a player for Dutch side Feyenoord, the Holland pivot is seen as a great target for La Blaugrana if the right situations pile up.

In terms of his profile, the player is seen as a great fit for Barcelona. Technically sound, he is also a player who has not exactly exploded into the spotlight and neither is he inexperienced. Already aged 24, the player has a decent level of exposure to the highest European level of football under his belt.

Moreover, he already knows the taste of success and what it takes to get there. Last season, Feyenoord managed to topple Ajax’s dominance in the Eredivisie. Much of that success was also due to the consistency and aid coming in from Wieffer.

With a goal and 5 assists in 25 league appearances, the player was contributing more than what his duties entailed.

This season, he is hoping to help his side recreate that glorious league victory as Feyenoord are currently second in the Eredivisie. In terms of his individual tally, the 24-year-old has already scored twice in 11 appearances.

However, as has recently been the case for Barcelona, then comes the financial side of things. Valued at €15 million by Transfermarkt, Wieffer is seen as an affordable option who is neither cheap nor expensive. The report does speculate that FC Barcelona are hoping to negotiate a better deal, however.

For now, Wieffer is added into the many names for the future for Barcelona. The likes of Brazilian talent Gabriel Moscardo and Belgian starlet Arthur Vermeeren are also seen as capable options for the coming summer window.
