FC Barcelona completed a number of transfers on the deadline day yesterday, including a number of departures. Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix were both signed and registered in the final few hours of the window, while Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati left the club on loan.
Another player who left the club last night was Ez Abde, who has permanently left Barcelona. Last season he played for Osasuna, where he was quite impressive as he became an important part of the team, and helped them reach the Copa del Rey final.
Barcelona have a buyback option on Abde
This season Abde will be playing for Real Betis, as his transfer was completed late in the window. Previously, it was reported that Real Betis had directly bought the player for around €7.5 million, but Barcelona will have a 50% right on any proceeds obtained from the future transfer of the player.
Now, journalist Adria Albets reports that Barcelona can also see Abde coming back to the Catalan club, as they have a buy-back option in his latest contract. Thus, the Catalans can buy back Abde for €20 million, if they feel the player is performing up to the mark at Real Betis.
Abde left because of Xavi’s preferences
The player had returned to Barcelona over the summer from Osasuna, aiming to impress Xavi and get a clear role in the Barcelona squad. His performances in the preseason were actually convincing enough, and Xavi wanted Abde to stay, especially since the departure of Ousmane Dembele.
However, Xavi wanted Abde to stay only as a depth piece, as it was reported that Xavi’s first preference for the forward line is Lamine Yamal, followed by Raphinha, and then Ferran Torres. Thus, Abde was pretty low down in the pecking order, while the arrival of Joao Felix would have made things worse for him.
