Barcelona keep their eyes on Celta defender with a future benefit – report

Certain players often seem to find their best versions away from Barcelona. Given the limited chances these players are awarded at the Catalan club, they look to pursue their careers elsewhere. However, the progress they make afterwards is completely up to them.

Loan deals are one way for players to manage these new opportunities. However, some players believe in longer projects and hope to simply sign with new teams. One such case was that of Oscar Mingueza, who parted ways with Barcelona to play for Celta Vigo.

While Celta Vigo may be struggling this season, it seems that Mingueza himself is thriving. According to SPORT, Barcelona remain attentive to his progression as it could spell out a financial boost for them in the future.

The reason behind this is the 50% future sale amount that Barcelona would be entitled to. La Blaugrana let him leave for Celta in 2022 with the letter of freedom in exchange for the future sale option. As it turns out, it may have been the correct decision.

According to OptaJose, Mingueza is currently the defender with the most attacking chances created in La Liga. These numbers speak for themselves, but even the visual test is appealing. Rafa Benitez, the current coach of Celta, has deployed Mingueza in multiple positions already this season, including the midfield. This is one of the many factors that have resulted in various clubs keeping an eye on the 24-year-old.

For now, the interested parties primarily hail from Italy according to the report. A possible departure for Mingueza away from Spain is something that excites Barcelona. Moreover, the Catalan giants desperately need any extra amount of funds that they can get their hands on.

Mingueza formerly played for Barcelona since his La Masia days. Having joined the club in 2007, he rose to prominence within the youth ranks until he made his first team debut in 2020. He gained a particularly notable role within the team under the management of Dutch coach Ronald Koeman.
