It is only the start of the season, with only two matches played, and FC Barcelona are already facing injury problems with some of their important players. Players like Gavi and Frenkie de Jong, who have been out of action since the last season, are still recovering and will need some time to return to availability.

Meanwhile, the Catalans saw some of their other important players also getting injured during the summer. The most notable such case was that of Ronald Araujo, who suffered a serious injury while on duty with Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America.

Andreas Christensen also suffered an injury a few days ago which will keep him out for two months. Similarly, Eric Garcia has also suffered a foot injury today ahead of the game against Rayo Vallecano.

Jules Kounde is expected to play as a right-back for the most part of this season, and Clement Lenglet has been sent on loan to Atletico Madrid. Despite the recent injury, Eric Garcia’s future at the club is also not entirely certain, and there have been talks of a return to Girona for him. Thus, one of the positions that looked overburdened at Barcelona a few days ago is now looking quite fragile.

In these circumstances, a recent report claimed that Barcelona could try to reinforce the center-back position if they return to the 1:1 rule before the end of this summer transfer window.

A lot of stars need to align before the Catalans can get another center-back from the market, but they already have some names in their mind to reinforce this position. According to Mundo Deportivo, the most popular name in the club’s offices for this position is the Valencia youngster, Cristhian Mosquera.

The 20-year-old Spanish center-back can also play as a right-back. He already has more than 50 appearances with the Valencia first team, with 47 of these appearances coming in La Liga. In the last season, he was a regular feature in the first team, as he accumulated 36 appearances.

Thus, he can be a good option for Barcelona, especially as he still has room to further develop into a top-class center-back. However, with only a few days left in the summer transfer window, Valencia might not be too keen to part ways with such an important player.
