Barcelona have found it tough to get a suitable right-back, especially with the loan move of former Ajax man Sergino Dest to Italian giants AC Milan and the winter departure of Spanish defender Hector Bellerin to Sporting CP as both players failed to impress Camp Nou faithful with their performances.
The Blaugranes have been forced to make do with the center-back duo of Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo as the club’s preferred right-backs with the former being the most preferred candidate by head coach Xavi Hernandez.
On the other hand, Xavi has been forced to deploy young left-back Alejandro Balde or the versatile veteran Sergi Roberto as his preferred right-backs, especially with the Catalan giants having fatigue and injury woes.
According to recent reports from SPORT, the club could be in for a cheaper but more reliable right-back hence putting to bed the rumors of their pursuit of French international Benjamin Pavard and Argentina’s Juan Foyth.
The two were at the top of the Catalan’s transfer target wish list and the financial issues at the club have barred a move for the two especially with the demanded fees being too high.
Barcelona however have their eyes set on a cheaper option as the club’s scouting team has given in positive feedback on Borussia Dortmund right-back Thomas Munier.
The Belgian international is available for a low fee and with the German club already having Marius Wolf to fill in that void, he could be allowed to leave in the summer.
Barcelona’s pursuit for a right-back could heat up in the summer and with the club in need to reinforce that department, the Blaugranes could be in for another long summer in the market for a right-back.
Cules can only wait and see whether Julian Araujo could be good enough to be promoted to the first team or if a new name will be high in the cards for Barcelona.
