It is a well-known fact that Barcelona will go after a center forward in the summer as currently, they have no natural backup to Robert Lewandowski. There have been several names rumored with a move to the Catalan capital, with one of them being Borussia Mönchengladbach’s French forward, Marcus Thuram.
The 25-year-old will have his contract ending with the German club at the end of the season, with many clubs interested in his services as he will be a free agent in the summer. Accordingly, the player was also offered to Barcelona, but while it remains an open folder for the club, as reported by SPORT, the priority is the signing of Vitor Roque.
Thuram’s potential signing perfectly fits the transfer policy promoted by Mateu Alemany: a player whose contract runs out, being available on a free transfer, and one which, even if he fails to meet the expectations at the club, would have a market in the future, still having plenty of years left and potential to be unlocked.
The Frenchman had a great season at Borussia Mönchengladbach, registering 16 goals and 7 assists in 31 appearances, while he has also featured in France’s silver-winning squad at the World Cup in Qatar. His signing is not completely ruled out at Barcelona, but the club is still hoping that Deco can close a deal for the 30 million-rated Brazilian forward instead.
If they are to sign a striker, Barcelona would want someone who is able to grow and develop further, which criteria the 25-year-old Thuram fits perfectly. Moreover, his already significant experience would also help to ease the burden on Lewandowski’s back and learn from the Polish superstar simultaneously.
With all that, unarguably the biggest positive about his potential signing is his contractual situation, whereas the same can be quite an aggravating factor as there will certainly be a lot of competition, with clubs like Bayern, Dortmund, Inter, Real Madrid, Atlético, Sevilla, Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal and Aston Villa all following the Frenchman’s situation.
