Although this was not the case in the last summer transfer window, FC Barcelona have made some interesting signings of free agents to strengthen their team in the last few years.

For instance, last year, they got one of the best midfielders in Europe, Ilkay Gundogan, for free after his contract with Manchester City expired. Before that, they had also signed the likes of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie without paying any fee for them.

As things stand, the Catalans are once again keeping an eye on some interesting players whose contracts end at the end of this season, and according to SPORT, one such player is the Bayern Munich winger, Leroy Sane.

Sane’s contract is expiring in 2025, and previously, his objective was to sign a renewal with the Bavarians. However, the signing of Michael Olise has changed the situation significantly for him, as he is no longer a starter for Vincent Kompany. This sporting situation has also cost him a position with the German national team.

Currently, he is still in negotiations with Bayern Munich, but would not extend his contract if he is not guaranteed a starting role. Thus, if negotiations fall apart, the €70m-rated winger will be able to leave the German club for free in June.

The former Manchester City winger has been linked with Barcelona in the past as well. His former agents had a very good relationship with the Catalan side, and two years ago, there were reports of Blaugranes being interested in his incorporation.

However, Bayern asked €50 million for his signing, and his high salary demands also made him a difficult target for Barcelona. The problem of high wages can also impact a potential move next year unless he agrees to lower his demands.

Flick also knows him perfectly, as Sane was a starter and a key player for him during his time at Bayern Munich. Nico Williams still remains the number one priority for the Catalans, but Sane can also be an interesting option as Barcelona continue to look to sign a winger in the next summer transfer window.
