After making only some minimal additions to their squad in the last summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are expected to have a more eventful transfer window next year if they can solve their FFP issues by that time.

The Blaugranes are looking to reinforce several positions in their squad, including the forward line, where they have recently been linked with one of the most in-form strikers in Ligue 1, Jonathan David.

Furthermore, with the contracts of defenders like Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen expiring in 2026, Barcelona might also make moves in the market to bring in a defender.

In this regard, Fichajes reports that one of the favorite candidates for Hansi Flick to reinforce the center of his team’s defense is the Bayer Leverkusen center-back, Jonathan Tah.

The German could change clubs next year as his contract with Leverkusen runs out in the summer of 2025, and Barcelona are currently the main candidates for his signature.

Having arrived at the German club in 2015, Tah has been an integral part of the Leverkusen side. Over the years, he has proven himself to be one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, particularly impressing with his physical strength, play anticipation, and getting the ball out of the defensive line.

His experience of playing in the top European league also makes him a highly valuable defender. Tah has also proven his mettle internationally with the German national team, with whom he has accumulated 31 caps.

With such experience and abilities, the €30 million-rated defender will be a highly sought-after option in the upcoming summer transfer window, as several European clubs will be looking at this market opportunity to bolster their backlines.

However, Barcelona are currently leading the race to sign him, as Hansi Flick is particularly keen to have the experienced defender in his team for the 2025-26 season.
