Xavi Hernandez has done a commendable job at FC Barcelona since his arrival back in late 2021. He steered around a sinking ship and led it back to domestic success, winning both La Liga and the Spanish Supercup within his first full season as Barca manager.

Moreover, the Barcelona higher-ups clearly see his time as a manager to have been the right decision, as they have just recently extended his contract until 2025 themselves. Yet, they’re not the only ones who continue to have faith in him.

Andres Iniesta, former Barcelona star and club legend, recently gave an interview to Emirates Sharjah Sports TV according to Mundo Deportivo, and spoke about various topics, including Xavi Hernandez as Barca manager and the rise of a particular 16-year-old prodigy.

Having previously played with Xavi at Barcelona and in the Spanish National team to form a renowned duo across club and country, Iniesta arguably knows Xavi best since their time together. Asked about what he thinks of Xavi’s Barca and how they’ve progressed, he had the following to say:

“First and foremost, I believe Xavi’s return to the club occurred during a challenging period, both administratively and internally and externally. He had the courage to take on this challenge.”

He further explained that the pressure at Barcelona tends to bring out the best in people
and ensures that they bring out their maximum capabilities. He also wished the team luck for their ongoing season:

“I think as time has passed, things have become more positive. Being in Barcelona obliges you to give your maximum effort. I hope that this season progresses even further. Being in various competitions provides stability for all of us to enjoy.”

While other topics were also discussed, one that would particularly catch the eyes of those concerned about Barcelona will be that of Lamine Yamal. The young 16-year-old prodigy has been regarded as a generational talent given his capabilities at such a young age already, and Iniesta gave his two cents on the player’s emergence:

“Playing for Barcelona at 16 or representing the national team at 16 is not an easy matter; on the contrary, it’s very challenging. He is a young talent who has all the time and the future to develop.”

However, he did state that caution and the right procedures must be taken to ensure the Barcelona youngster develops at the right pace and is not rushed into anything that could stall his undeniable potential:

“It’s essential to nurture him through hard work and by adhering to academic guidelines at all levels, especially with the exceptional talent he possesses. Continuously working and progressing will make him a unique player.”
