Barcelona like Italian coach to replace Xavi after the Germans

BARCELONA, SPAIN - APRIL 17: FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta gives a press conference in response to recent allegations over payments made to referees by the club, at Spotify Camp Nou on April 17, 2023 in Barcelona, Spain. UEFA and Spanish authorities are investigating Barcelona over the payment of millions of euros to the company of Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spanish football's refereeing committee. If found guilty, UEFA's investigation could lead to a Champions League ban for the club.

FC Barcelona acknowledge the fact that they need a proper trajectory for the club moving forward. Both Xavi and Deco have publicly spoken about the side needing a new direction, and their thoughts coincide. For this reason, the next Barcelona manager who takes over will have to be exactly right.

From within the club and reports associated with them, there is massive speculation surrounding several German coaches. From Jurgen Klopp, and Thomas Tuchel to even Hansi Flick, there are a lot of names being linked directly to Barcelona.

However, beyond the German market, it seems that one name manages to stand out the most for FC Barcelona. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, this particular name originates and hails from Italy, but is currently one of the most exciting coaches to watch over in the English Premier League.

The name in question is that of 44-year-old Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi. Currently the head coach of Brighton and Hove Albion, he is a manager that Barcelona seem to appreciate a lot.

Despite the lack of resources at his disposal, he has managed to coach Brighton into becoming one of English football’s most well-managed and exciting sides to watch. Moreover, ever since Ansu Fati left to play for Brighton on loan, the club’s progress has been monitored more thoroughly.

The praise he has received from other sides and coaches understandably is merited, and he is a coach who loves to field a progressive and dynamic side with great attacking prowess, something that coincides with how Barcelona like to play.

Furthermore, he also shares representatives with a certain Barcelona star. Ronald Araujo, Barça captain and one of European football’s premier defenders, shares the same representatives as the Italian coach. In fact, SPORT reveals that they were in the city just recently to discuss Araujo’s potential renewal.
