After incorporating Vitor Roque into their squad, FC Barcelona are now looking to get a midfielder in this winter market. However, the Catalans need several stars to align for them to meet this goal. The main hurdle for Barcelona to get a midfielder in this window is their problems with FFP.

However, as already reported here, the Catalans are expecting to get a significant amount of money with the sale of Barca Studios in the coming days, and have already submitted documentation related to this to La Liga, and are now awaiting the league’s approval to get a player.

Deco and his staff are keeping an eye on several midfielders for this purpose, and one of the names that has been linked with the Catalans in the last few days is of Kalvin Phillips.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, another Premier League side, West Ham United, has gotten into negotiations with Manchester City for a loan move of the player till the end of the season, and is currently the leading side in pursuit of the midfielder.

Kalvin Phillips himself was welcoming a move to Barcelona in January, as he believed a move to the Catalan club could have helped him relaunch his career. However, as already mentioned, the Catalans do not have the finances ready for his move, and the player understands that a move to Barcelona in the current window might be impossible.

The Manchester City midfielder is not enjoying too much prominence under Pep Guardiola and is thus looking for a way out of the Premier League side. He has made only 10 appearances this season up to now and wants a change of scenery to retain his position in the England squad for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024.

West Ham United can complete the move in the upcoming few hours, and Barcelona seem to be set to miss out on the Manchester City midfielder.
