FC Barcelona are still in the market for a new midfield pivot, and it is essential that they go into the next season with a competent replacement for Sergio Busquets with them in the squad. The club is in contact with a number of players for this role.

One such player that the club has been linked with for some time now, and with an increased intensity in the last few days, is the Croat Marcelo Brozovic. Having played for Inter Milan for several seasons now, the player is looking highly likely to depart from the Milanese club, having helped them reach the Champions League final this last season.

There is a race on-going for the signature of the Croat, and FC Barcelona and the Saudi side Al Nassr are the two most prominent candidates. According to SPORT, Al-Nassr have made an offer of €20 million net and a contract of three years for the player.

However, the player Is not satisfied with this offer, and is confident that he can sign for Barcelona this season. The player will sign for the Saudi side only if their financial package is too good to decline, and the latest offer the Croat has received from the Saudis is not that good.

Saudi clubs are offering players much higher wages than that, and Brozovic is holding firm for now. He already has a good salary at Inter, and at Barcelona, he will have a better sporting project, which the player wants.

Negotiations between the two parties are still on-going, but the player knows that he will have to make a final decision by the end of this week. Al-Nassr are offering €23 million for the player to Inter Milan, and this coupled with the player’s wages, means they are already offering a high financial package for the player, and it remains to be seen whether they will improve their offer.

Thus, if the negotiations between the player and the Saudi side break down, Barcelona can become the favorites to land him. For now, Barcelona have remained limited to contacts with the player himself, in order to convince him for a move to Catalonia, but the operation can advance further in the coming days.
