Marcelo Brozovic was previously linked with a possible transfer to Barcelona as the Catalans seek the proper heir to Sergio Busquets’s throne. The possibility of such a move also arose in the winter but in the end, nothing happened and the Croatian midfielder stayed in Italy. Now, it seems again that the player is on his way out of Inter, but the destination isn’t Barcelona.
Saudi Arabia has been the main protagonist of this transfer window so far, with dizzying offers tempting many players to move to the Saudi Pro League. As reported by Mundo Deportivo and further confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Brozović is the latest player to be linked with Saudi Arabia, Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder who still has a contract with the Italian club until 2026.
Brozović has had a great season at Inter, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed at Barcelona so much so that there was even speculation about a possible Brozović-Kessié swap deal. In the last hours, it seemed that Barcelona regained their interest in the player, however, from Italy, sources point out that the Croatian could play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo next season at Al-Nassr.
What is now happening with the huge footballing inflow with Saudi Arabia, similarly happened with China years ago. Arabia is becoming the go-to place for players to end their careers while earning a lot of money. However, the problem this time is that the players who decide to go there cannot really be labeled veterans and could still have some years at the top level in them.
To start, there is Ruben Neves, aged only 26, who is set to play for Al-Hilal. Despite previously emerging as a potential Busquets replacement at Barcelona, the Saudi club went ahead and paid the €55 million valuation set by Wolves without any issues and secured the Portuguese midfielder’s playing rights until 2027 as per Fabrizio Romano.
But he would not be the last player to take his talent to Asia. After the Ballon d’Or winner, Karim Benzema also chose the Saudi Al-Ittihad as his next destination, N’Golo Kanté (aged 32) and Kalidou Koulibaly (aged 31), both from Chelsea, could be the following big names of European football to land in Arabia.
