In the remaining days of this summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are looking to sign an attacking midfielder along with a right-back to go into the next season with a very strong squad.
The club’s top priority for the attacking midfield position is Bernardo Silva, who currently plays for Manchester City. However, the Portuguese midfielder has been waiting for an approach from Barcelona for almost the entirety of the summer window and, as reported here previously, is not going to wait much for the Catalans.
In such a scenario, Barcelona are very likely to miss out on Bernardo Silva this summer and have identified other midfielders as a contingency plan for this transfer window. The top priority of the Catalan club, if they miss out on Silva, is the Argentine Giovani Lo Celso.
While he spent the last two seasons on loan at Villareal, Lo Celso is owned by Tottenham and has returned to the London club this summer. As a result, he will be with the Premier League side when they visit Barcelona for the Joan Gamper Trophy.
In fact, the English team, along with Lo Celso, has already arrived in Catalonia and started the match against the Catalan giants. According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Lo Celso will be looking to present his case to Xavi and Co. to induce them to make a formal approach for him this summer.
The Argentine midfielder has a contract till 2025 with Tottenham but will find it hard to get minutes, especially after the arrival of James Maddison. Thus, the player might be looking to leave White Hart Lane to get playing time at another club.
Meanwhile, at Barcelona, Xavi is open to the idea of getting Lo Celso, as he believes he is capable of enhancing the attacking output of the Catalan team. The Barcelona sporting department also likes Lo Celso, especially for his experience playing in La Liga with Real Betis and Villareal.
