Barcelona are a football club that realize the value and promise of committing themselves to and having faith in younger, developing talents. With the European level of football advancing at an alarming pace, competition continues to get more and more difficult when it comes to standing out.
Yet such players that do indeed manage them to stand out, attract the interests of some of the very best in European football. A similar case has popped up for FC Barcelona, who set their eyes on a particular talent in Italy.
According to the latest revelations by bold.dk, FC Barcelona have begun to show interest towards a particular Danish fullback. 18-year-old left-back Patrick Dorgu is the latest of a long list of prodigies that Barcelona have come to catch an interest in.
Currently deployed with the Under-19s of Italian side Lecce, the Dane primarily plays as a left-back but also possesses the ability to be deployed as a left-midfielder higher up the field. However, Barcelona are not the only ones interested.
At the moment, the player’s most likely destination is the Serie A itself, where the senior main team of Lecce is interested in getting the 18-year-old signed up. Other interested clubs include the likes of Liverpool as well, but options of top European sides are ones that the player’s agent currently advised against.
When referring to the interest by Liverpool, the agent, Kingsley Ogdobo, stated:
“Liverpool wants him. Liverpool have been watching him for a long time and interested in him, but if he gets there he will have to play in the U-23. It’s not the best for him, so I advise him not to do it. They can offer you a lot of money, but that is not what we are looking for at the moment. We focus on his career, development, and playing time.”
The representative also mentioned explicitly the interest of Barcelona, thereby confirming it to be true:
“Lecce’s headhunter has also told me that Barcelona are also watching Patrick.”
It remains to be seen just how strong this interest from Barca in the Danish fullback is as the summer progresses. For now, it should be kept in mind that the Catalan club is simply interested in the player and potentially following his development.
