One of the FC Barcelona loanees who is making the best use of his loan away from the club is the USA international Sergino Dest. The fullback joined the Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the last summer transfer window, after having spent a rather uneventful and uninspiring last season at AC Milan.

Dest has become an important member of the squad for Peter Bosz and has already made 12 Eredivisie and 8 UEFA Champions League appearances for the Dutch side, including the two play-off games against Rangers. In these appearances, the fullback has scored one goal and given two assists.

His loan at PSV ends at the end of this season, and unless the Dutch side decides to exercise the option to sign him permanently, he is expected to return to Barcelona. However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the player is not too keen to return to the Catalan club.

This was clear from his comments in his recent interview with Voetbal International, as he responded in the following terms when asked about a return to Barcelona: “Xavi is still there. So, not for the moment, it will be too difficult.”

The USA international was signed by Barcelona in October 2020 for €21 million plus €5 million in variables. However, he was unable to keep a starting place in the Catalan club and had to leave on two loan stints, one at AC Milan and now at PSV.

The transfer to PSV has turned out to be good for all the sides, as the Dutch club is currently leading the Eredivisie, and the player is getting back to the good form that he showed at Ajax. When asked about the possibility of him remaining at the Dutch club, the right-back was not very clear with his answer:

“I believe that Barcelona, PSV, and I have something to say about it, and it can be discussed at the end of the season. Now it’s too early… Maybe I stay, maybe I go. Malik (Tillman) is in a similar situation with PSV and Bayern Munich, but fortunately, we don’t have to resolve it yet.”

While Dest has shown that he is not too keen of playing under Xavi again, the Barcelona head coach himself is not looking forward to his return, as he wants Joao Cancelo to remain his right-back for the coming season as well.
