One of the on-loan FC Barcelona players performing at a commendable level this season is Sergino Dest. The USA international is currently playing in the Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven and is now seeing his performances improve after a string of bad seasons.
The fullback spent the last season on loan at AC Milan, as he found it difficult to get minutes under Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona. However, he was also not a very prominent player under Stefan Pioli in Italy and thus returned to Barcelona when his loan contract ended last summer.
After once again failing to impress Xavi in the preseason and the USA tour, Dest returned to the country of his birth, the Netherlands, to join PSV Eindhoven.
As SPORT has noted, this move has worked wonderfully for the fullback thus far, as he has emerged as one of the most trusted players for the coach, Peter Bosz, with whom Dest had already worked before at Ajax.
He played his first match with PSV only a day after joining the Dutch club, in a game against Rangers. His performance in that match provided him with much confidence, and he has been untouchable for his coach since that time. However, he is not playing as a right-back, a position he usually played at in Barcelona, but as a left-back.
Dest has been one of the pillars of the PSV team that progressed to the Champions League Round of 16 with a game to spare, finishing ahead of teams like Lens and Sevilla. He has been contributing meaningfully both in attack and defense, as was clear in his last match against Arsenal which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Now, as both PSV and Barcelona have progressed to the Round of 16, Dest can face his parent club in this round of the tournament. He does not have a fear clause in his contract, thus he will be available to Bosz if his side draws Barcelona on Monday.
