Andreas Christensen has been one of the most successful signings made by FC Barcelona in the last few years. The Dane center-back joined the Catalan club in the summer of 2022 and easily slotted into the team to become one of the main protagonists for Xavi during the last season.
His defensive contributions were essential as Barcelona won the La Liga title last season. While his role has been somewhat subdued this season due to the defensive additions of Cancelo and Martinez, he is still a highly trusted player for Xavi.
While his footballing ability is beyond any doubt, SPORT reports that Barcelona dugout is almost fed up with the Dane’s propensity to exaggerate reactions to challenges from opposition or any other physical contact during matches, especially as most of these situations do not result in any benefit for Barcelona.
This phenomenon was clearly on display in the last Barcelona match against Atletico Madrid. In one of the sequences of play, the defender let himself fall on the ground, and Xavi was almost out of his mind to see the condition of the defender. However, Christensen got up and started playing normally a few seconds later.
Thus, the report from SPORT claims that the locker room has decided not to have any eye contact with the player whenever he is exaggerating the impacts of physical contact. The team does not want to have unusual scenes and situations during matches, and this decision has been arrived at to avoid just such scenarios.
