The ongoing season for FC Barcelona has not gone nearly as smoothly as they had hoped. La Blaugrana are aware of this predicament, but they also know that most of these misfortunes have been caused by their own carelessness. To solve this, Barcelona will have to make certain adjustments.
One area in particular where the team seems to lack is the right-back position, and reinforcements there are considered crucial. At the moment, Joao Cancelo remains the most natural option there, however, his loan term is set to expire at the end of the season and his continuity beyond this season is not a guarantee.
As per Luis F Rojo, Barcelona want to recall Mexican fullback Julian Araujo at the start of next season. Currently, on loan at fellow La Liga side Las Palmas, the Mexican is having a great season under the tutelage of Garcia Pimienta and it seems that Barcelona are intrigued by his development.
As such, his return to Barcelona is being studied by the club. Rather than letting him be sold or loaned out for an extended duration, it seems that Barça would much rather have him return and provide some much-needed competition and depth to the right-back position.
Despite not having officially featured for Barcelona in their official games, the club and the player believed his development would progress better elsewhere. Ultimately, from the progress seen thus far, it seems that the Mexican fullback made the right decision by joining Las Palmas.
Much more acclimatized to the European levels of football now, he seems more than ready. A potential return to Barcelona with increased importance could be just what he wants, and moreover, it could potentially also be exactly what Barcelona needs in the wake of a right-back dilemma.
