Barcelona look to make one last attempt at acquiring Man City right-back – Romano

Barcelona target Joao Cancelo

The particular concerns at FC Barcelona in regards to wanting to reinforce certain positions remain a massive objective for the Catalan club as they continue to assess the transfer market to find the best possible options for the club.

The potential departure of French winger Ousmane Dembele could bring about some much-needed funds at FC Barcelona that could then consequently pave the way for new arrivals in positions Barca wish to reinforce.

One such position is that of right-back, where Barcelona’s sporting staff believes the squad is quite short-handed in considering the specialists they currently have within the squad.

Jules Kounde remains their primary solution to commandeering the right-back slot due to the unavailability of any reliable specialist, but it appears that Barcelona may be looking to solve that dilemma.

As per the ever-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are still pushing for the arrival of out-of-favour Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo and hope to allocate funds from the Dembele operation towards his arrival, for which they will push one last time as per the journalist.

Moreover, Romano further elaborates that in the scenario that Cancelo is unable to arrive at FC Barcelona, the Catalans will look to finalize the arrival of Real Valladolid fullback Ivan Fresneda, with the 18-year-old’s deal already being quite advanced as per the journalist.

In either scenario, Barcelona are looking to bring in a right-back to a side that Xavi Hernandez believes could very well use an acquisition in said position to better overall reinforce the squad for the upcoming season.

As it stands, Dembele’s departure is fast approaching as per a report by Romano himself, who states that the Frenchman’s departure could be finalized before the end of the week itself.
