Some players deserve the additional praise that comes their way, especially at FC Barcelona. Despite being in a very difficult position both financially and sportingly, Barça has been helped a lot in these difficult times by their youngsters. Their quality and maturity beyond their years has aided Barcelona in maintaining some level of stability.
The names that most would associate with this occurrence are likely to be Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, and for understandable reasons. Cubarsi, as a result of his great growth and development, has already been renewed by Barcelona as well.
However, one name that can simply not be ignored for the sheer number of contributions he has made to the first team this season is Fermin Lopez. The dynamic midfielder, more often than not treated as a rotational option, has done well to make the most of the cameos he has been awarded.
Barcelona has taken notice of this and his solid performances, and as highlighted by SPORT, they intend to reward him accordingly. Despite already having renewed his contract until 2027 in August of last year, Barça now hope to improve some conditions in that contract and possibly increase the duration as well.
One of the main things that will be addressed is his current salary. Despite being the fifth-highest scorer in the team this season, and having delivered those goals against some of the best Europe has to offer, it only makes sense that the youngster now be given a salary that fits his role in the team.
Xavi Hernandez has already labeled Lopez as being one of his guarantees for next season. Completely based on meritocracy, the young 21-year-old engine in Barça’s midfield now has a much more crucial role in the squad and will likely be trusted a lot more consistently next season as well.
Already on a first-team contract, Barcelona will improve not just his salary but also hope to extend his stay. While he has only just recently signed until 2027, Barcelona will look to increase that expiry date by at least a year or two. Still a very young prospect, but Lopez manages to deliver on the big stage like a proven veteran already.
Lastly, his release clause may also end up getting an update. Most of Barça’s most coveted youngsters and stars have a release clause of €1 billion, while Fermin Lopez’s current release clause is €400 million. Hence, it may not end up coming as a surprise if the young Spaniard’s release clause is increased to match that same figure as well.
