Despite being one of the captains and one of the most important players at FC Barcelona, Ronald Araujo’s future at the Catalan club is far from certain at the moment.

The German champions, Bayern Munich, are willing to go to any lengths to sign the Uruguayan defender, and the latest news in this regard indicates that the Bavarians have already raised the sum of €100 million to sign him.

Barcelona themselves are aware of this strong interest in their key player from the German giants, and Deco has been working for weeks to offer the defender a new contract which will improve his current salary.

According to SPORT the defender currently thinks only about Barcelona and is fully focused on the coming Champions League tie against PSG. After the conclusion of this season, he will think about his future but is quite clear that he wants to continue at the Catalan club.

Araujo is emotionally attached to Barcelona, as it was this club that gave him the opportunity to make it to the highest level in Europe, and he is also very comfortable in the dressing room and the city. His commitment was clear when he played several games even while suffering from discomfort.

The Uruguayan currently has a contract till 2026 with Barcelona, which he had signed two years ago. At that time, the then Sporting Director, Mateu Alemany, had promised that his wages would be increased in coming years, as the Catalans were then going through a severe economic crisis.

Now, FC Barcelona will have to make true to their promise, especially with the threat from Bayern Munich lingering in the background. There is no doubt that the player deserves this raise as he has been one of the best defenders in Europe in recent years, and both Deco and Laporta are open to offering him better wages to make him continue with the club.
