South America is a region that holds a particularly special place in the heart of FC Barcelona. Many greats that have emerged within the Camp Nou donning the colors of La Blaugrana often arrived from South America and have done so both in decades past and in recent years.
From Ronaldinho to Lionel Messi, Barcelona have always had a fond connection with that particular region. Even now, heading into the upcoming January window market, Barcelona have already sealed the agreement to sign 18-year-old Brazilian gem Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense.
However, according to Brazilian journalist Thiago Fernandes, it appears that Roque is not the only Brazilian talent that Barcelona are hoping to incorporate as soon as possible. As per his recent report, FC Barcelona have now made their initial steps towards another South American gem as they have inquired directly about 17-year-old midfield talent Gabriel Moscardo.
Currently playing for Brazilian side Corinthians, Moscardo has managed to excite many European elites with his talents and the clubs are now gradually making their respective approaches to test the waters in regards to the young defensive midfield gem.
As was previously reported at Barcelona News Network, Barcelona currently faces stiff competition from English Premier League club Chelsea despite it looking possible that the player could be leaning more towards a move to the Catalan giants rather than the side from London.
6’1 in height and possessing great awareness as well as technical ability, the player is demonstrating great utility playing as a central defensive midfielder. Moreover, the particular position that he specializes in is one that Barcelona are desperately looking to reinforce as they currently have no long-term alternatives to Oriol Romeu.
Earlier on, it was even reported that Chelsea have already had their initial offer for the Brazilian rejected. As per speculation, the values of that particular proposal reached €21 million as a fixed amount alongside €4 million in variables.
In contrast, it is currently uncertain whether Barcelona are even able to match such an offer, much less improve on it. As a result, the operation for Moscardo seems more or less improbable at this moment in time and it will be seen whether or not the Catalans are able to come up with a sustainable solution to bring him in.
