Barely a few days remain between now and the end of the summer transfer window for FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants have not done a lot of business in terms of arrivals, but they definitely have sorted out several exits. However, in this final stretch of the window, Barcelona may once again need to dig deep into their pockets.
The unfortunate injury to Marc Bernal that happened recently has put Barça in a position where they did not want to be. In terms of specialist defensive midfielders, the team looks devoid of any strong options, and others who may be fit for the role are currently out injured.
As a result of this, Barcelona are now being forced to return to the market in hopes of finding a solid alternative to the injured 17-year-old midfielder. So far, the name that has been brought up as the most likely arrival is that of 19-year-old Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, as pointed out by Fabrizio Romano.
However, if the club does manage to sign the young Spanish midfielder, they may have Thiago Alcantara to thank. The young player was known by the former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder who most recently helped Hansi Flick during the Catalan club’s pre-season tour as an assistant.
Moving forward, however, according to ESPN’s Samuel Marsden, Thiago is reportedly pushing for a move to see Bajcetic land in Barcelona. The young midfielder born in Vigo has a lot of technical quality and mastery to offer, and beyond his injury record, he would undoubtedly be a great addition to a Barça side that needs a new pivot.
Thiago knows the player quite well from his time back in Liverpool, and he remains one of the great advocators who wants to see the young Spaniard land in Barcelona. Currently, the club is hoping to hijack the progress made by RB Salzburg in order to ensure that they can bring in the Premier League midfielder.
However, it must be kept in mind that no deal has been agreed upon yet and the only thing known for sure is that Barcelona have submitted their €4 million bid for the player’s loan. It remains to be seen, however, if La Blaugrana can manage to get this deal over the line.
