Ilkay Gundogan has been one of the most important players for FC Barcelona this season. The German midfielder arrived only in the last summer transfer window as a free agent after having fulfilled his contract at Manchester City and has already become an integral part of Xavi’s midfield at the Catalan club.

This is no surprise keeping in view the high quality that the midfielder has been showing over the last few years. He captained the Manchester City team to a treble during his last season at Manchester City and has been one of the most in-demand midfielders in the world for some time now.

As the player himself shared, Gundogan joined Barcelona because he had been a fan of the club since his childhood when he watched Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona teams in action. However, his stay at the Catalan club may not be too long.

According to SPORT, a Turkish journalist, Burhan Can Terzi, claims that Gundogan wants to play at the Turkish club Galatasaray, and the Istanbul-based club has already met the player in Germany after their match with Bayern to explore the possibilities of bringing him to Turkey.

The report claims that Gundogan himself is willing to take the necessary action to join Galatasaray, as he does not want his sporting career to end without him donning the jersey of another of his childhood favorite club.

The information provided by the journalist goes on to claim that the German has told his representative that he wants to join the Istanbul club before he retires. Furthermore, Gundogan is even prepared to talk to Barcelona about this issue.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray themselves would do everything in their power to incorporate Gundogan in the team, as it would be a tremendous achievement and a source of pride for their fans.

However, the midfielder still has two years on his Barcelona contract and a €400 million release clause, so the Catalans remain in full control of the player.
