FC Barcelona have been one of the best teams in Europe so far this season and this has been built with the foundation of an excellent and functional attack. The team has performed exceedingly well and has already scored 40 goals this league campaign.

In the Catalan derby last night, Barcelona secured a 3-1 victory over local rivals Espanyol. Raphinha scored a goal and Dani Olmo netted a brace as a first-half clinic was sufficient for Hansi Flick’s men to get past their rivals on the night.

Last night was Olmo’s first start since his injury setback and he wasted no time in showing that he deserves to be a starter going forward. As per Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona midfield star is putting up incredible numbers so far this season.

Olmo has made a remarkable impact this season, scoring five goals in just five appearances in La Liga. In comparison, he managed only six league goals for RB Leipzig over the past two seasons and found the net just once in the UEFA Champions League during that same period.

What this means is that the 26-year-old is now averaging a goal every 57 minutes for Barcelona in La Liga and Uefa Champions League. That is a number that would terrify any opposing defense, despite the fact that the sample size is very small. Playing with better teammates, Olmo’s attacking productivity is increasing.

One thing you can say about Olmo is that he is a natural goalscorer. In the #10 position, the Spaniard looks at home and is able to use his immense football brain to weave out of pressure and find himself in scoring positions.

Even against Espanyol, his two goals were very intelligent. His first goal was a perfectly-timed run into the box and he was fortunate that Lamine Yamal found him with an inch-perfect trivela cross. For his second goal, he pulled away to generate space on the edge of the box and produced an incredible finish across the face of the goal.

Barcelona are lucky to have someone like Dani Olmo in their ranks. He is an incredible talent tailor-made to play the #10 role in Hansi Flick’s tactical setup and let’s wait and see how his career at the Catalan club plays out going forward.
