FC Barcelona are looking to make several additions to their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the reinforcement of the midfield pivot position the top priority of the Blaugranes.
This position has been one of the weak points for Barcelona this season, especially as Oriol Romeu has not been able to perform up to the required standards, and it has only been a few weeks since Xavi has successfully experimented with the deployment of Andreas Christensen in this position.
But this is not the natural position for Christensen, De Jong, or Gundogan, who have also played here at some point this season. As a result, the Catalans are keeping their eyes on several players who excel in this position, and one such player to have been closely linked with the Blaugranes is the Girona midfielder, Aleix Garcia.
Barcelona have been reported to have already tried signing him in the last winter transfer window, but according to SPORT, this operation is frozen since the last few weeks, and some other big teams have also gotten interested in him during this time.
Some of these teams hail from the English Premier Leauge, while others play in the Bundesliga. The player himself is aware of the interest from these teams, but he prefers Barcelona and is ready to wait for the Catalans to make a move before committing to any of these sides.
Barcelona will restart work on his signing after the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, and assess whether his acquisition is viable from an economic point of view.
The Catalans can also contemplate the addition of one of their own players to reduce his fee, but such a possibility is yet to be discussed internally at Barcelona.
What is clear for now is that Deco and his staff like the player a lot, mainly because of his versatility in midfield, and his excellent vision. Barcelona believes getting him now is a market opportunity that should not be spurned, but further activity on this operation will have to wait for a few weeks.
