There is never really any shortage of drama at FC Barcelona no matter what goes on around them. La Blaugrana have been deeply drowned in a lot of controversy and media attraction in recent years and it feels inescapable. Now, however, that virus seems to have spread to the Barcelona players as well.
Previously, all these constant rumors and leaks tried to change opinions about the arrival of certain players that never ended up becoming Barça players. Now, with that train having passed, it seems that the media continues to stir up new rumors regarding players that Barcelona already has.
The most recent victim of this seems to be Ilkay Gundogan, the 33-year-old German midfielder formerly from Manchester City, who has been linked to a move back to his former club. According to SPORT, moreover, he has asked his former side himself to see if a move for him can be arranged that would see him dress up as a Citizen again.
Furthermore, the report states that Manchester City and head coach Pep Guardiola would be open to welcoming back one of their most successful veterans and captains. While he may have left for free back in 2023, the player could be on his way back to Man City almost a year later.
At least, that would be the reality of things if Hansi Flick’s words are not to be believed. After the recent victory against Valencia, a game for which Gundogan was not in the squad, the German coach stated that the reasoning behind it was a physical precaution rather than a transfer issue.
For the new Barcelona coach, the expectation is that Gundogan will stay this season. While nothing can be guaranteed in the world of football, Flick’s words are the closest thing to an official statement that exists right now. As for Gundogan himself, it is expected that he will be available for Barça in the next game against Athletic Club.
