Barcelona midfielder might return sooner than expected

Barcelona midfielder Pedri during a training session

Pedri Gonzalez has arguably been FC Barcelona’s heart this season. The young Spaniard has been pivotal to the successes of Barcelona during this campaign and it was undoubtedly a major blow for fans of the Blaugrana outfit when the youngster went down injured early on in the first leg against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League play-off clash.

Yet, lo and behold, news emerges that signals a positive development. According to recent reports from Diario AS, the youngster from the Canary Islands might just make a return sooner than his expected 1 month on the sidelines.

Originally expected to be out of action for Barcelona until at least the 19th of March, when Pedri would possibly make his return against Real Madrid of all teams, the player is said to now potentially be aiming for a return around the 12th of March, against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

Pedri was diagnosed to have a tear in his right thigh’s rectus femoris, and the injury was initially prognosed to be keeping him out for at least a month. The player’s absence has been massively detrimental to the Catalan club, with them struggling to retain their dominance within the midfield battles during games for longer durations of time.

Xavi Hernandez would undoubtedly be overjoyed should this reported development come to fruition, as he would be welcoming back his indefinite starter within his midfield and would gain all the perks that Pedri’s service itself would bring alongside it.

However, another injured player of Xavi’s, Ousmane Dembele, will potentially remain on the sidelines for as long as his prognosis dictated. The player is currently scheduled to return on the 19th of March itself, against Real Madrid. In the case of the Frenchman, Xavi and the medical staff would not be willing to take any avoidable risks with the winger given his previously fragile medical history.
