FC Barcelona just cannot catch a break when it comes to injuries. For seasons now, the club has been having torrid luck when it comes to this department with key players missing out on important games at different times.
Despite the impressive 4-1 win over Girona, Barcelona suffered the bad news of Dani Olmo having suffered an injury which is set to keep him out until the end of the next international break. The hope right now is that he returns against Sevilla.
Furthermore, Barcelona were set to be boosted by the return of Fermin Lopez who had come back ahead of schedule with hopes of being ready for the AS Monaco clash in the UEFA Champions League. However, things at the club are never that simple.
Now, as per SPORT, Fermin has injured his other leg in training with Barcelona today and is set to miss out on a few more weeks. This is bad luck for a player who has been dying to break into Hansi Flick’s setup.
After an Olympic games campaign where he was flying sky high, the 21-year-old has been brought back to Earth with these injury issues. Maybe this is why they often say that the game of football is a great leveler.
One player’s misfortune however could turn out to be another player’s chance to shine. With Olmo and Fermin ruled out for the foreseeable future, Pable Torre, the U-21 Spain star could get a chance to show his talent in Flick’s team.
One must not forget just how good Torre looked during pre-season and even during the international break. This could also be an opportunity for a youngster like Guille Fernandez who was called up to the first team by Hansi Flick against Girona.
Barcelona will be hoping for both Olmo and Fermin to make swift returns from their injuries and it remains to be seen who replaces them in the meanwhile. The game against Monaco might give us a clearer picture and let’s see what Hansi Flick does.
