FC Barcelona have seen a lot of youngsters shining with the first team this season, and two of these youngsters, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez, have been playing under Xavi for a significant period of time.
The latter of these players, Lopez, has been rewarded for his good performances for the first team off the pitch as well, as he has become the latest face of the global brand, Under Armour.
Lopez appeared in an interview with Mundo Deportivo as he is enjoying his days off from football, and some of his responses in this interview provide interesting insights into his aspirations with the team.
Regarding the overall season of FC Barcelona so far, Lopez was clear that the team has been playing well, and the only thing missing for now is results:
“We’ve had a streak of negative results, but I believe there have also been moments when we’ve played well and shown good gameplay. Hopefully, we can reverse the situation and get back to winning ways and good performances.”
The youngster went on to highlight how the team’s performances have blown hot and cold over the last few months:
“There are alternating performances, some really good ones like the wins against Porto and Atlético Madrid, the big victories against Antwerp and Betis, and then there are matches that are much tougher, like the ones against Girona or Antwerp in Belgium.”
As Xavi has already done previously, Lopez also highlighted the lack of effectiveness as one of the factors holding FC Barcelona back:
“Well, these are also periods in the season. Perhaps now it’s a bit tougher because we lack concentration in certain plays and moments. Many times, we’ve received a lot of punishment, lacked effectiveness, and then the matches became complicated because rival teams also play.”
“However, there have been occasions where we’ve played well but were a bit penalized by our lack of effectiveness.”
The youngster also expressed great optimism that the team can go on to compete for all the important titles this season, and named Gavi as the player he gets along the best in the locker room.
“I’ve said it many times, with Gavi. Well, I get along with everyone, but I’ve been sharing a lot of time with Gavi since I was younger, and he’s the best friend I have.”
After the end of his holidays, Lopez will now be hoping to help the team in the business end of the season. A trophy this season will mean a lot for the youngster, as this is his first season with the first team, and getting a trophy will only make it even more memorable.
