Barcelona midfielder sustains injury, could be out for 2-3 weeks

Sergio Busquets was amongst those chosen by Xavi to represent Barcelona as a starter in their clash against Sevilla in La Liga Santander. However, 3 minutes into the match and the captain was injured and had to be taken off consequently.

After a collision with Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri, the captain having received a blow to his foot, saw his ankle potentially twisted in a rather painful manner. Staying down on the ground, the player called for a substitution as he himself felt unable to continue given the pain he was in.

This injury comes as a blow to Xavi Hernandez and Barcelona, as they now include another key player alongside Ousmane Dembele into their list of injuries. With a slew of difficult fixtures up ahead, both key figures of Xavi’s game plans may now have to sit on the sidelines for a while.

The player was then replaced by Franck Kessie during the game, the latter midfielder having been used rather fleetingly by Xavi this season, and now awaits further tests and updates regarding his injury: both the extent of the damage as well as the potential duration of his unavailability.

According to the most recent reports by Javi Miguel, an expected time out for the player is potentially going to be anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks. This may get updated as more reports come through.
