The current ongoing season for FC Barcelona is a reflection of how they have managed the team. The Blaugranes have had quite the poor management progress heading into this campaign, and it has reflected poorly on their results. For Barcelona, several cases highlight this rather unplanned process.
In terms of both results and performances, Barcelona have offered very little to be hopeful about. Even when they do play well, it is more of a result that is an anomaly rather than a consistent showcase of talent and technical management. Furthermore, this lack of consistency stems primarily from a poorly managed and recruited team.
As highlighted by SPORT, this current iteration of Barcelona seems to have been put together rather haphazardly. In terms of an equally distributed squad depth, there is no such thing in this team. An overload is present within many positions, but depth is equally absent from other positions.
A great example of this haphazard management would be the recruitment of Vitor Roque. Despite spending a sizeable amount as the transfer fee for his arrival from Athletico Paranaense, Barcelona failed to consider the talent they already had. As such, it is now more common to see Roque on the bench rather than appearing for Barcelona.
In his stead, even young Marc Guiu seems to have overtaken him in the team’s hierarchy. A prodigious striker from the subsidiary continues to be trusted beyond the most expensive Barcelona signing of the season. That in itself clears up exactly how self-destructive such planning can be.
To make things right, or at least partially do so, Barcelona will need to make certain decisions in the summer. At the moment, there is a great overload of center-backs at Barcelona, and parting ways with at least two of them could clear some squad space, and salary space, and even provide additional funds for Barcelona to make use of in the transfer window.
In terms of their priority targets, Barça continue to look for a pivot and fullback. Other positions, such as that of left wing, also need attention but the immediate priorities are finding players for the two positions mentioned. Moreover, even cases like Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix are still open for Barcelona to finalize.
Learning from their past mistakes, it would be wise of them to make sure they are not repeated. Better planning will be expected of Barcelona, and they need it as well, given the lack of resources and second chances they will have heading into the new season.
