With the summer transfer window now closed, FC Barcelona are now looking ahead to ensure the team’s strength in the medium term with several contract renewals.
As things stand, there are several important players whose contracts are expiring in 2026, and Deco is already working with the sports area to renew these players. This is especially the case as the Blaugranes have decided not to start a season with any player who has only one year left on his contract.
According to SPORT, there are five players whom Barcelona are particularly focusing upon to renew and these players are also quite open to extending their stay with the Catalan club. These five players are Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Marc Bernal, Fermin Lopez, and Gerard Martin.
Yamal is currently one of the priority candidates of the club for a renewal. The Blaugranes were able to give him a contract only till 2026 in his last renewal because of his age but had an agreement with him to keep him committed to the club till 2030.
But keeping in view his performances, the Catalans believe he deserved a new contract. However, negotiations will not be easy as Yamal’s value has increased drastically, and he will also expect a significant bump in his salary.
Another priority renewal target for Barcelona is midfielder Pedri, whose current contract runs until 2026. Already a key figure under Hansi Flick, the club is eager to secure his long-term future and ensure he remains an integral part of the team for years to come.
Talks between Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and Pedri’s entourage were initiated at the beginning of the last summer transfer window, signaling the Blaugranes’ intent to keep their midfield maestro in the fold.
The renewal of Marc Bernal’s contract is already well-advanced, with a significant salary increase on the table. Despite his injury preventing him from meeting the performance-based variables that would have triggered an automatic renewal, Barcelona are offering him a new deal to demonstrate their confidence in his abilities. The club views this extension as a vote of faith in Bernal’s potential and future contributions to the team.
Barcelona also want to renew Fermin Lopez to reward him for his good performances in the last season, when he was the team’s second top-scorer, behind only Lewandowski. The Blaugranes even let Ilkay Gundogan leave because they believed in him.
He still has a contract till 2027, but there is already an agreement reached between him and the club to extend his stay for two more years. This renewal will be announced by the club only when they get enough FFP margin to get this new contract registered.
Lastly, work is also being done on Gerad Martin’s renewal, whose current contract expires in 2025, but on whom Barcelona have the option to unilaterally give a one-year extension.
Deco and his entourage have already made significant progress for his renewal, but this renewal is not expected to come before the end of the next international break. He will receive a significant bump to his salary, especially as his current paycheck is below even that of some subsidiary players.
Other than these five players, there are four more players whose contracts are expiring in 2026. One of them is Gavi, whose renewal talks will open only after his return from injury. There are currently no talks underway with Christensen, while Barcelona are yet to convince Aruajo and Frenkie de Jong to accept their new contracts.
