FC Barcelona look set to get their transfer business underway this season by signing RB Leipzig attacker Dani Olmo. Yes, they have already signed Pau Victor but it it could be the first high-profile signing of the summer.

For quite some time, the Catalan club has persisted with a move for Olmo. The Spanish playmaker looks set to leave the Bundesliga club in search of a new, high-profile challenge and he could be back to his boyhood club.

Olmo, a La Masia graduate has gone on to establish himself as one of the most intelligent playmakers in world football. His performances for Spain in the recently concluded Euros further went on to establish his credentials.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the ever-reliable Italian journalist, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Dani Olmo on a contract until 2030 and are planning to send a new official bid to RB Leipzig for the player.

The journalist has confirmed that Blaugranas’ new bid will be €55m guaranteed, with €4m easy add-ons and €3m difficult add-ons. The entire deal could cost Barcelona around €62m if all conditions are met.

Olmo had a release clause in his contract that expired on July 20 for around €60m. Barcelona’s revised offer for the 26-year-old almost matches his release clause, thereby increasing Leipzig’s chances of accepting this bid.

Should the German club accept the offer, Barcelona will have their pathway clear to wrap up their first high-profile signing of the summer. In Olmo, they will be getting a versatile and intelligent player who can play in a number of positions.

In Hansi Flick’s 4-2-3-1 system that he has been using in pre-season, Olmo would slot in perfectly as the #10 just behind the striker. It is the same position he played in for Spain in Luis de la Fuente’s team. Flick could also choose to use the Spaniard from the left side of the attack.

Although Olmo might not have been Cules’ preferred signing this summer ahead of Nico Williams, he still brings a lot of quality to the table. Let’s see how long it takes for the club to wrap up this deal and announce the Spaniard as a Barcelona player.
