FC Barcelona have already been forced to offload some of their players this summer to accommodate others. The Catalan giants are far from being in an ideal financial position even now, but they have improved in some aspects. Thanks to the departures that Barcelona has sorted out, they may have more room to navigate through now.
With Ilkay Gundogan’s departure, and even that of Mikayil Faye to Rennes, other operations can now be activated or returned to. First and foremost comes the registration of Dani Olmo in the first team, especially now that he has been included in the squad list for the Athletic Club game.
However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, these operations have now paved the way for the arrival of Federico Chiesa as well. Thanks to the finances generated and the salary space created, the Italian winger’s arrival now seems feasible for Barcelona and all parties are now optimistic about his arrival.
In fact, they now seem to be confident about landing the services of the Juventus player. No longer wanted by Thiago Motta at the Serie A club, Chiesa is available for a transfer and would likely not cost a fortune to sign either. As reported previously, Juventus would rather get something for their 26-year-old forward rather than nothing at all.
His passage to Barcelona now remains in a stronger position than at any point previously during the transfer window, and he is seen as the most likely candidate to end up signing for the Catalan giants this summer. Apparently, even Hansi Flick himself approves of the club’s interest in the player.
Hailed as ‘unstoppable’ by former Juventus player Giorgio Chiellini, the Italian veteran had this to say about the €35 million-rated winger:
“He’s not the type of player that links the team, like a number 10, not a player that likes to have the ball and connect passes with team-mates, but one against one, he’s unstoppable.”
While Barcelona do have some names to consider for a potential fullback arrival as well, the priority of the Spanish club remains to sign a new winger. With Rafael Leao essentially having now become an impossible dream for Barcelona, all eyes have turned towards Chiesa to make him their newest recruit.
