Having concluded their business of the transfer market, FC Barcelona will now be looking to focus their energies on the season that has already started. However, the Barcelona sporting department will not get much rest as they are already looking ahead to renew the contracts of some of their players.

The contracts of Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal were the priority for Barcelona, but as reported here earlier, the club has already reached an agreement with these players, and their renewal will be announced in the coming few days.

Barcelona already sent a renewal offer to De Jong

Now, Diario AS reports that another player whose contract Barcelona are looking to renew is the midfielder, Frenkie de Jong. In fact, the report claims that the Dutchman has already received an offer from the Catalan club to extend his contract further and bring his wages more in line with the economic realities at the club.

Frenkie de Jong already has a contract with the club, which goes on till 2026. This new contract offered to the midfielder will extend his contract even beyond these three years.

The midfielder not in a hurry to negotiate

However, the report further mentions that Frenkie’s entourage is in not too great a hurry to negotiate with Barcelona. They want clear guarantees that Frenkie will be an integral part of the Barcelona squad in the years to come. For now, this does not seem like a problem for the club, as the player is already an important part of Xavi’s squad, and looks set to retain this status in the coming years.

Another problem is the strained relations of Frenkie de Jong’s entourage with the club. Barcelona tried to force him to move to Manchester United last summer, and while the player resisted the pressure to remain at the club, there has been no formal rapprochement between the two parties, and relations remain cold.
