As the current financial year is approaching an end, FC Barcelona are looking to shed a significant weight off their books, particularly by lowering wages. In this regard, the club has already identified a number of players that it aims to transfer out by the end of June.
One of these players is Samuel Umiti, and according to SPORT, the club is working tirelessly to find a way to get rid of his high wages by the end of this month.
The report mentions that the club is considering offering the player a letter of freedom, which would allow him to choose his next destination freely, without any interference from the Catalan club.
Previously, Barcelona were hoping to get a small transfer fee for the player, as he has recovered some of his form with his loan stint at Lecce last season. However, his wage demands are still too high for any of the sides that are interested in signing him.
Clubs from France cannot afford a transfer fee while also paying him high wages, and interested Italian clubs face the same problem. Thus, as the chances of getting a transfer fee for the player are getting bleaker for Barcelona, the club believes the only way out in this situation is to offer a letter of freedom for the player.
However, the Frenchman will have to renounce any salary that he is entitled to receive from the club with his contract running up to 2026. Barcelona’s offer for a letter of freedom has a deadline, as the club does not want to pay any more money to the player who has not contributed to the team in the last few seasons.
Meanwhile, all the involved parties understand that a solution must be reached as soon as possible, and the player is not a part of Xavi’s plans for the pre-season, and would want to join another club as soon as possible to train and gel with the new team before the next season starts.
