FC Barcelona have been a development bed for young talents for some time now. While most of their production has been through home-grown La Masia players, the club has shown a tendency to purchase youngsters with a high ceiling in recent years.
Recently, Barca Athletic announced the signings of three high-potential youngsters – Ivan Cedric, David Oduro, and Abdul Aziz. It has now emerged that the club is set to offer a trial to yet another highly talented player.
As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have invited 15-year-old Mexican super talent Gilberto Mora for a trial to train and get to know the facilities of the club. He is the youngest goalscorer in the history of Liga MX.
He plays for Club Tijuana Jugend in the Mexican league. The 15-year-old is an attacking midfielder and has already represented his nation in the U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels. At 1.6m, he is a diminutive presence.
The 2008-born talent has already made his first-team debut for his club, playing 166 minutes in four matches including one as a starter. The Mexican scored against Club León which helped him achieve the record.
Should the trial go well at Barcelona, the club could induct him into La Masia and give him the perfect platform to develop. Not always does the opportunity of playing for the best academy in the world come knocking and Mora is likely to take it.
Barcelona have a clear vision of building a squad for the future. In recent seasons, so many players have emerged from La Masia and made it to the first-team and this would be motivation for the youngsters who are currently in the academy.
Mora looks like an incredible talent and Barcelona will be looking to acquire him before other European clubs enter the race. Let’s wait and see if the club takes the 15-year-old in after his trial and how he develops in the coming years.
