Despite the midfield playing an integral part in the conquest of La Liga, FC Barcelona are looking towards the market to complement this area in the coming summer. The club’s hand is forced to some extent in this regard, as Sergio Busquets will depart the club at the end of this season.
To mitigate the loss of their veteran midfielder, the club is looking towards several options in the market, including Gundogan, Zubimendi, and Ruben Neves. In recent days, the media has been abuzz with stories associating the club with the German midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
The German international has played for Bayern Munich since 2015 and is a firm starter for the Bavarian club. Keeping the importance of the player for his club, it can be easily inferred that Bayern Munich would not be willing to part from their highly talented player.
As a result, FC Barcelona’s pursuit of the player seemed almost an impossible task. However, this has changed in the last few days, as the latest reports from Gerard Romero claim that Kimmich’s club has offered the player to FC Barcelona themselves, and thus, the player could actually be interested in playing for the Catalans.
However, the report further suggests that FC Barcelona are currently studying the likelihood and feasibility of his signing. The Catalans also know that any move for the midfielder will be resisted strongly by the Bavarians.
This resistance from Bayern Munich is spurred both by the importance of Kimmich for the club, and the history between the two clubs, as Barcelona and Lewandowski forced Bayern’s hand last summer into allowing the Polish striker to leave the German giants and join Barcelona.
Furthermore, FC Barcelona will also be restricted by their financial weaknesses and their feasibility plan submitted to La Liga in their pursuit of the player. The whole operation still looks impossible, but there are signs of hope springing up.
