With the summer transfer window almost reaching its conclusion for Barcelona, the Catalans remain vague about their plans for the remainder of the window and exactly who is arriving or when they seem to be in the plans for arriving, if at all.
The case of Joao Cancelo, for instance, continues to hang in the balance as he awaits to finally complete his move. On the other hand, the departure of French defender Clement Lenglet is something Barcelona continues to work upon as well.
However, one thing of certainty within the Barcelona camp at the moment is that the upcoming generation of academy talents that continue to dazzle and amaze must be retained at all costs within the club. As such, Barcelona have reportedly already begun their advance to offer a new contract to a particular 20-year-old midfield talent.
According to the ever-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona have opened talks with the camp of 20-year-old La Masia talent Fermin Lopez in order to offer up a new deal to the 2003-born midfielder in the hopes of ensuring his continuity with the Catalan club.
Hoping to reach an agreement with him, Barcelona are certain that betting on this particular youngster is a good decision for the future of the club as they believe Lopez has the potential to be a top-level footballing asset to have in the near future.
The 20-year-old already impressed during pre-season, in particular against Real Madrid where he scored and assisted in the same game, and just now having made his official first-team debut in La Liga with Xavi Hernandez bringing him on for the clash against Villarreal for FC Barcelona.
It will be interesting to see how soon these negotiations begin to take shape, as the player’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Barcelona will be hoping to tie down the 20-year-old as soon as possible keeping that expiry date in mind.
