There is a clear stance within FC Barcelona that focuses on the continuity of their most important players. Over the last few years, the Catalan giants have come to understand the importance of sorting out contracts ahead of time and they will now look to avoid past mistakes. However, especially at Barcelona, the continuity of youth is a rather significant priority.

While there are many different players in the team who are considered crucial to the sporting project and progress is being made towards that end, there is simultaneously a special level of attention being given towards the team’s youngsters. Many of them have already been renewed and their stay at the club has been extended, but a certain Spanish duo is still on the checklist.

As highlighted by SPORT, Barcelona is currently working on the renewals of two former Golden Boys, Pedri and Gavi. Both players are considered to be important to the club’s future and Deco has already initiated his operation to negotiate and settle new extensions with both midfield prodigies before the end of the year, and the club is quite optimistic about both cases.

At the moment, the expectation is that both players will have their stay extended for several more years. In Pedri’s case, for instance, Barcelona want to retain him until 2030 and that has been communicated to his entourage as well. As a result, progress has been made on that end and it is expected that an agreement will be reached without too many issues.

Furthermore, this new deal will see Pedri become one of the highest paid players in this current squad and it will reflect his importance and consistency within the team. Having finally overcome his injury woes from the past, the young midfielder has become a crucial part of Hansi Flick’s side.

Negotiations with 20-year-old Gavi’s entourage, however, have been comparatively slower. The reason behind this was the player’s recovery from his ACL injury, which was something that both the player and the club wanted to put their attention towards first before negotiations over a new contract would begin.

Now, having fully recovered and gradually making his way towards his first start under Hansi Flick, Gavi is more than open to negotiating the extension of his stay at Barcelona. As it stands, the club is hopeful that an agreement can be reached before the 31st of December, and that Gavi’s renewal can be locked down ahead of 2025.
