Given the desperate circumstances that could potentially arise for FC Barcelona should their salary margins and fund generation not be adequate enough to aid the Catalan giants with fulfilling their various objectives, La Blaugrana continue to work on offloading players.
While arrivals remain a massive priority for FC Barcelona with negotiations with other clubs already in play, the feasibility of those arrivals depends significantly on Barca’s own ability to offload those within the squad deemed to be unnecessary for future plans.
One fundamental departure that FC Barcelona have been working on for quite a while is that of French central defender Clement Lenglet, who currently earns one of the highest salaries in the club while simultaneously being one of the players Xavi does not count on for his future plans for Barcelona.
Having already had the option of Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr willing to take the Frenchman away in exchange for the asking price of €15 million that Barcelona had reportedly set, while simultaneously being willing to pay up close to €10 million per year to out-of-favor Barcelona defender.
However, as reported by Spanish outlet SPORT, the player seems to have no intention of going to Saudi Arabia and continues to block that option leading to Al-Nassr now pursuing the option of Manchester City central defender Aymeric Laporte.
Moreover, Barcelona remain concerned that Lenglet may potentially be just waiting out time until offloading him to English side Tottenham Hotspur remains the only option the player is willing to join, having already played for Spurs last season on loan.
As it stands, negotiations with Spurs have been rather unfavorable for Barcelona as the English outfit at best is offering to take over the entirety of the Frenchman’s salary but only at the agreement that no transfer fee will be exchanged, something that Barcelona had been counting on.
For now, the player continues to train and exercise with Barcelona despite not yet having been registered in the records of La Liga.
Barcelona continue to assess the feasibility of selling off Lenglet at the expense of no transfer fee as long as his substantial payout leaves behind a salary margin significant enough to allow the registration of other players.
