FC Barcelona is a team that often sees its best players represent their countries at the highest level. All top clubs need to have credible and established international stars, and Barça is no different. Moreover, a special tradition of sorts has always seemed to exist between Barcelona and the Spanish National team.

The Blaugranes have seen core players of the club become crucial pieces of Spain from time to time. The 2010 World Cup, for instance, was one won by Spain through the help of a core made primarily of Barcelona stars. It seems that the modern era will be no different, as more names begin to be called up.

The latest of such names, as per speculation by SPORT, could be Pau Cubarsi. While he may be aged just 17, he is already a player that those in charge of the Spanish National team look at quite fondly. In fact, his call-up to represent the senior men’s team may not be too far away.

The upcoming friendly games against Colombia and Brazil in March could look to be the perfect testing grounds for the young Barcelona defender. Luis de la Fuente, head coach of Spain, would be quite eager to use these friendlies to test out new blood.

Previously, he has not been fortunate enough to get enough games without consequence to experiment as much as he would like. However, with these two games against two quality opponents, he can test out new players without needing to worry about the result.

Cubarsi’s rise to the top has been meteoric, and this season is just his hard work bearing fruit. The 17-year-old is highlighted as a player of great maturity, technical quality, and understanding of the game that exceeds the levels of those his age by some distance.

In terms of the exact dates, the clash against Colombia is scheduled for the 22nd of March. Then, the game against Brazil will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on the 26th of March. In the event that his senior call-up does not take shape, Cubarsi could be part of the Under-21 side in the Olympics as well.
