FC Barcelona will look forward to reinforcing the defense in the upcoming winter transfer window and earlier reports had claimed that Xavi has his eyes set on the arrival of a new right back.
La Blaugrana had already shortlisted Diogo Dalot, Benjamin Pavard, Jeremie Frimpong, Juan Foyth, and Wilfried Singo as potential candidates to reinforce the right-back spot. However, according to reports from SPORT, Benjamin Pavard and Juan Foyth are considered the priority targets.
Pavard has been Bayern’s first-choice right-back while playing 21 games and scoring four goals this season. The Frenchman managed to shrug off the competition brought in by the summer arrival of Noussair Mazraoui.
Pavard’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024 and with the contract renewal more than unlikely to happen, FC Barcelona will try to negotiate with Bayern Munich for the signing of the French defender in January.
Juan Foyth is another name on Barca’s wishlist since this summer. The move seemed more than likely to happen in the summer but the high price tag slapped on him by Villarreal and an injury saw the transfer fall off. Foyth’s contract ends in 2026 and Villarreal may only sell him if a huge transfer offer arrives.
Foyth and Pavard seem to be realistic options to replace the out-of-favor Hector Bellerin and injured Sergi Roberto and it will be a busy winter transfer window for the Catalan giants.
