As the summer transfer window gains momentum, so does FC Barcelona and their pursuits of the set targets for the months ahead.
The loss of Lionel Messi to MLS side Inter Miami, partly owned by retired footballer David Beckham, has taken its toll on Barca and the Blaugrana outfit is now keen on ensuring other targets are ensured to arrive.
One such target is German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, whose contract at Manchester City is set to run out at the end of June this year, thus allowing him to arrive as a free agent should he do so.
As per the most recent update on the midfielder by Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are keen on concluding his signing for the Catalans within the coming days or perhaps even in the coming hours.
Having been instrumental for Manchester City, his current side led by former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, this season in leading them towards a treble charge and particularly in the final stretch, it has led to the Mancunians wanting to renew his contract with an improved offer to help retain his services.
On the other hand, La Blaugrana already have a three-season deal on the table for the player and are currently calm about his position on his transfer given that, as the report claims, reliable sources within Barcelona have been assured of Gundogan’s desire to represent the Barca colors and proceed to become the second signing of the summer for the Catalans following the acquisition of Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez.
Moreover, Manchester City themselves already have doubts regarding the continuity of the 32-year-old and have thus begun contacts with Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic, currently playing for Chelsea with his contract soon to expire, who even trusted Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed currently holds a contractual agreement with the Citizens.
